Balancing the Intellect, Passion, Emotion, and Body through the Elemental Forces of Nature

Balancing the Intellect, Passion, Emotion, and Body through the
Elemental Forces of Nature

Fire, water, earth and air are the basic elements from which all creation is made. Plants need sun, rain, earth and air to nurture and sustain their life and growth. Humans and other animals could not survive without the warmth of the sun, without the abundance of food from the earth, without water to drink, nor could we live without air for more than several minutes. These are the basics upon which we depend. We are composed of the elements, and they give us a strong foundation on which to build our lives. The number four symbolizes strength and stability, and the four elements represent the strength and stability of a well-planned structure.
These four elements represent different aspects of our being: air, the mind, fire, the spirit, water, the emotions, and earth, the body. When we attain a balance of all these aspects of our lives, we are able to achieve greater balance within ourselves, with the people around us, with our life situations, and with the Earth.
Each of us is influenced by our relationship to the elements. Usually, some of the elements influence each of us more than others. For example, some people are very fiery and throw themselves fully into what they are doing, but in the process, “burn out” from overextending. Another person may have a very intellectual or air-oriented approach to life but have a hard time getting in touch with their emotions. One way to approach our personal growth is through balancing different aspects of our persona by balancing our relationship to the elemental energies.
Many people are imbalanced elementally in some way. Some have an excess of a particular elemental energy, and some are lacking in a particular elemental energy. It is possible to learn how to achieve balance between the four elemental energies by moderating their various excesses and enhancing the qualities we lack. It can be achieved both by working with the related elemental force through elemental meditation and by the balancing of activities and proclivities that relate to the elemental natures.
