Divination with Pendulums
Pendulums are splendid tools for developing clairvoyant abilities. Through the regular application of its use, it can help you to connect to and recognize higher wisdom by exercising your ability to listen deeply to your inner knowing. Some of the things pendulums can be used for include: ascertaining information about health issues, finding lost objects, assisting in decision making processes, help with understanding energy flows in a place or in a person.
Pendulums are some sort of (preferably) symmetrical object strung on a chain or string. The pendulum chain is often held between the thumb and index finger. When you can, it is a good idea to rest your elbow on a table surface when you use it to help decrease the influence of random movements on the divinatory reading. You can hold it in either hand. Some like to use the non-dominant hand to hold it, but I don't think it really matters. You will have to see what works best for you.
Some people believe that the pendulum is moved by spirits or guides. While in some cases this may be true, sometimes the naked truth is better than something seemingly super mystical. It is my belief that it is the wisdom of your own subconscious that operates the movement of the pendulum. Deep within you are all the answers you seek. Using the pendulum can help you to get out of your own way, and let the part of you that has access to the truth come through by means of the pendulum's movement.
First off, you will want to figure out what movement means "yes," and what movement means "No." Some people find that the pendulum moves clockwise for "Yes," and counter clockwise means "No." Others find that horizontal is "No," and vertical means "Yes." Ultimately, it doesn't matter what anybody else uses to figure out their answers, as long as you know the way it works for you, and use it consistently in that manner. Allow the pendulum to hang freely, and ask, "What movement means "Yes?" and see what happens. Repeat the process for "No."
When it comes times to use the pendulum as a divination tool, it is a good idea to start out with questions you don't have a lot of charge about. If you really want the outcome to be a certain way, it is pretty easy to influence the answer. For instance, don't start out by asking questions like "Should I leave my boyfriend?" Start out with something simple. Remember, practice is required to get good at just about everything. When I first started to work with divination systems, I found I was wrong about 40% or the time. I didn't let it bother me, and continued to have faith that I would eventually become more accurate. which I did. It is important that you phase the question very clearly and specifically to avoid misinterpretation problems.
One of my favorite ways to use the pendulum is with an arching scale,
like the one below.
By using the pendulum above a diagram like this one, you can ascertain numbers and percentages with ease. Just hold the pendulum at the center point of the bottom line, ask a question, and see which way it swings. One of my favorite applications for this type of pendulum use, is to figure out the relative effectiveness of different holistic healing products or treatments. I can ask questions like, "How effective would this homeopathic remedy be.. this herbal remedy be.. etc.." It makes it easier to figure out which treatment to use. I also use it when I am trying to figure out which product would be the most effective for me, and different brand's relative potency. You can change the scale from 1-100, and make it numbers relative to doses.. so that if I am trying out something that has a range of possible doses, I can figure out whether I should take 10 or 30 drops of an herbal remedy. As you can imagine, the applications are endless. If you are using it for health applications, be sure to back up your divination with some real science. This is something you don't want to just play with without knowing you are on the right track in the first place, especially when you are first experimenting.
Before each session, the pendulum should be blessed in whatever way you feel comfortable with, from stating that only higher beings (or whatever being you wish to contact) may influence the pendulum, to smudging (burning incense) and other purification techniques. The pendulum may also be purified after the session, to remove any residue the spirit may have left behind which may influence the next session.
Good luck with your work with pendulums.
I hope it serves you well.
Sincerely,
